Atomic Bomb Autographs (ABA) is a subsidiary of Monticello-AutographsBuy with 100% Confidence - Monticello-Autographs has completed Over 7,000 Transactions - See Feedback My 100% Positive Feedback Atomic Bomb Missions - August 1945 - Over JapanDuring the final stages of World War II in 1945, the United States conducted two atomic bombings against the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, the first on August 6, 1945 and the second on August 9, 1945. These two events are the only use of nuclear weapons in war to date. For six months before the atomic bombings, the United States intensely fire-bombed 67 Japanese cities. Together with the United Kingdom and the Republic of China, the United States called for a surrender of Japan in the Potsdam Declaration on July 26, 1945. The Japanese government ignored this ultimatum. By executive order of President Harry S. Truman, the U.S. dropped the nuclear weapon "Little Boy" on the city of Hiroshima on Monday, August 6, 1945, followed by the detonation of "Fat Man" over Nagasaki on August 9.Within the first two to four months of the bombings, the acute effects killed 90,000â??166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000â??80,000 in Nagasaki, with roughly half of the deaths in each city occurring on the first day. The Hiroshima prefectural health department estimates that, of the people who died on the day of the explosion, 60% died from flash or flame burns, 30% from falling debris and 10% from other causes. During the following months, large numbers died from the effect of burns, radiation sickness, and other injuries, compounded by illness. In a U.S. estimate of the total immediate and short term cause of death, 15â??20% died from radiation sickness, 20â??30% from flash burns, and 50â??60% from other injuries, compounded by illness. In both cities, most of the dead were civilians.Six days after the detonation over Nagasaki, on August 15, Japan announced its surrender to the Allied Powers, signing the Instrument of Surrender on September 2, officially ending the Pacific War and therefore World War II, as Germany had already signed its Instrument of Surrender on May 7, ending the war in Europe. The bombings led, in part, to post-war Japan's adopting Three Non-Nuclear Principles, forbidding the nation from nuclear armament. The role of the bombings in Japan's surrender and the U.S.'s ethical justification for them, as well as their strategic importance, is still debated.Below is a reprint from Signature House Auctions May 2009 catalogue/on-line auction:THE GENCHI COLLECTIONSignature House is pleased to present the Genchi Collection to our clientele. I have been a fulltime buyer and seller of autographs for some 30 years -- on eBay since 1997. The best guarantee a buyer has for autographs is the credibility and experience of the dealer. My background in autographs started as a reporter in both newspapers and radio/TV -- covering Hollywood, sports, and national politics at various times. Most of the autographs I sell came from my contacts as a reporter, or are obtained from reputable sources. I am co-author of the Sanders Price Guide to Sports Autographs, and I was a contributing editor and price consultant for the late George Sanders for all of his autograph price guides, until his death in 1998. I accept payment through Paypal. I ship through the US Postal Service.

The Doolittle Raid:America's Daring First Strike Against Japan Carroll V. Glines FIRST EDITION. Hard cover. Orion Books. 1988. 258 pages. Photographs. Fine book in fine dust jacket. Great copy! The catastrophe at Pearl Harbor was followed by five months of further defeats as America surrendered one island fortress after another. In the atmosphere of unrelieved gloom that followed. Roosevelt and his military leaders decided to boost American morale by undertaking a daring offensive action against ... morethe Japanese home islands. On April 18, 1942, the aircraft carrier Hornet, having been spotted by Japanese fishing boats about 650 miles east of japan, was forced to prematurely launch Lt. Col. James H. Jimmy" Doolittle and his sixteen B-25 bombers against their targets in the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Kobe, Osaka, and Nagoya. No American force had ever yet bombed an enemy capital city. No one was even certain that a B-25 bomber could be flown off the deck of an aircraft carrier. There was no easy way home. Since the B-25s could not be landed back on the Hornet, Doolittle's men would have to fly on into China, where they were to deliver the planes to American units then being formed. But the early launch forced fifteen crews to bail out or ditch their aircraft. One crew landed in Russia. Here is the complete account of one of the biggest gambles and one of the most harrowing stories of courage and self-sacrifice to come out of World War 11. What was supposed to be merely"thirty seconds over Tokyo" became an odyssey of escape that for some crew members lasted fourteen months and cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of Chinese patriots. Glines tells the true story of Jimmy Doolittle's Tokyo raiders; their bold bombing mission against the Japanese empire; their long, desperate struggle to escape their pursuers through China; and how the raid altered Japanese thinking about the security of their home islands and induced them to withdraw forces from the perimeter of their far-flung empire.CARROLL

My background in autographs started as a reporter in both newspapers and radio/TV -- covering Hollywood, sports, and national politics at various times. Most of the autographs I sell came from my contacts as a reporter, or are obtained from reputable sources.
