HistoryForSaletm Autographs & ManuscriptsMake an Offer Today and Get a Quick Response!Take a Look at This Week's Specials! COLONEL JAMES B. "JIM" IRWIN - INSCRIBED PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED - HFSID 165838 JIM IRWIN Official color NASCAR publicity photograph of James B. Irwin holding onto a miniature of a space craft. Photograph inscribed and signed: "Manfred/My Best Wishes/Jim Irwin". Color, 8x10. Official NASA photograph. Name imprinted at lower margin. Imprinted caption on verso: "JAMES B. IRWIN, of a ... moregroup of 19 astronauts selected in April, 1966, by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration." Air Force test pilot James Benson "Jim" Irwin (1930-1991) was an Air Force Colonel when he was selected by NASA as one of 19 astronauts in April 1966. Irwin was on the support crew of Apollo 10 and was the backup lunar module pilot for Apollo 12 before making his historic journey to the Moon on Apollo 15, which was launched on July 26, 1971. The Apollo 15 mission, whose lunar module, Falcon, landed on the Moon on July 30th, was the first designed to explore the Moon over longer periods, greater ranges and with more instruments for the collection of scientific data than previous missions. To accomplish these goals, the mission included the introduction of a $40 million lunar roving vehicle, which reached a top speed of 10 mph across the Moon's surface. Irwin, who was the lunar module pilot, and astronaut Dave R. Scott, who was the Commander of the mission, rode over 17 miles on the Moon as command module pilot Alfred M. Worden orbited in the Endeavor. Their lunar liftoff on August 2nd was the first to be televised. Apollo 15 returned to Earth on August 7, 1971. Irwin, who was one of only 12 astronauts to have walked on the Moon and one of the first of six to have also ridden on the Moon, retired from NASA and the Air Force in 1972 to form a religious organization, the High Flight Foundation, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He died of a heart attack on August 8, 1991. Minor surface creases (not evident head on), one at hair. Fine condition. See more material from these signers: COLONEL JAMES B. James Benson "Jim" Irwin (1930-1991) was an Air Force Colonel when he was selected by NASA as one of 19 astronauts in April 1966. Lightly creased at blank corners. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Fine condition. See more material from these signers: COLONEL JAMES B. Apollo 15 was the ninth manned mission of NASA's Apollo program and the fourth to land on the moon. The crew consisted of Commander David Scott, Command Module Pilot Alfred Worden and Lunar Module Pilot James Irwin. The mission launched on July 26, 1971, and landed on the lunar surface were David Scott and James Irwin spent three days on the moon. The mission was the first to use the Lunar Rover and is considered the most successful manned flight of the Apollo Program. Listed for auction is a exceedingly ... morerare WSS White Space Suit photograph signed by James Irwin. Avid astronaut collectors are well aware of the rareity of this image signed by James Irwin. Speculation is that he did not like the image and this is why the photograph is rarely seen both signed and unsigned, infact even autopen examples sell for a few hundred dollars. This example is an original vintage NASA WSS lithograph and the autograph is dedicated and signed ''my best wishes for your life Jim Irwin Apoll 15'' and he added his moon crest in black felt pen. The lithograph measures 8.00 x 10.00 inches and is in fine condition with trivial surface wear, it has retained its colors and even the corners are still intact. Again the photograph is in fine condition and will be difficult to find a nicer example. The autograph has been authenticated (in person not by scans) by Zarelli Space Authentication and will be accompained with the above Letter of Authenticity. The autograph is authentic, exceedingly rare to obtain on this format and is usually the ''last one needed'' to complete a WSS moonwalker collection. We have also listed the following Apollo mission crews, Apollo 7, 9, 10, 11, 13, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 17, along with a nice collection of military, aviation and astronaut autographs. Note, will will be adding an Apollo 8 autograph displays shortly. Sorry, no International shipping with this auction. Check out my other items! United States Shipping/Handling..... Please Read.... "JIM" IRWIN - INSCRIBED PAMPHLET SIGNED - HFSID 145462 JIM IRWIN Jim Irwin signs a pamphlet titled "Footprints on the Moon". Pamphlet Inscribed and Signed: "Richard/His love Jim Irwin", 4p, 3½x5¾. Titled: "Footprints on the Moon". Air Force test pilot James Benson "Jim" Irwin (1930-1991) was an Air Force Colonel when he was selected by NASA as one of 19 astronauts ... morein April 1966. Fine condition. See more material from these signers: COLONEL JAMES B. IRWIN See more listings in our AVIATION & SPACE (1,653) category.
