THIS ITEM IS COMING FROM CANADA& I DO COMBINE SHIPPING SO PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS I ship to USA& Canada. And this will be coming from CANADA. I only ship to VERIFIED PAYPAL addresses. To the USA: I will ship YOUR CHOICE either as a"small package" Which Canada Post does not sell tracking or insurance for but it's the cheapest so if you choose SMALL PACKET AIR ... moreyou are agreeing that you 100% understand that there will be NO TRACKING# issued to you. What I recommend is for a nominal fee you pick TRACKED AIR MAIL which includes TRACKING& INSURANCE to the USA. It should get to you in 4-8 business days"tracked" or 6-14 days as a small packet. I do not profit from shipping but realize some people are not in a rush and would prefer the cheaper shipping, even without tracking and insurance. Within CANADA I ship regular mail with delivery confirmation and insurance. It should get to you in 3-9 business days. If you are in the GTA. Wait for me to invoice you, it might be cheaper since you live closer:

You are bidding on a vintage Gullah Geechee handmade black Americana Kudzu basket. Kudzu is considered a rather pesky plant in the south- very sturdy and takes over many areas. This basket is from the lowcountry in South Carolina and was made in the 1990's- by the descendants of early slaves to the area. No apparent defects. The size is approximately 16 x 16 x 14.5 inches- quite a collectible- beautiful folk art heart shape. SEE PHOTOS AND EMAIL ANY QUESTIONS PRIOR TO BIDDING. About The Fang Tribe The Fang are especially known for their guardian figures which they attached to wooden boxes containing bones of the ancestors. The bones. By tradition, are said to contain the power of the dead person, in fact, the same amount of power that the person had while still alive. The Fang mainly inhabit the hot. They are of medium height and have a relatively powerful build and pride themselves greatly on their physical beauty. The Fang are reported to have moved from the northeast centuries ago and settled in the region to farm. Because they are a warrior like people they quickly conquered the native inhabitants. Another method of fishing, performed only by women, is dam fishing, in which water is removed from a dammed area and fish are taken from the exposed ground. Women also gather wild fruits and nuts or practice beekeeping while tending to the children. The group remains in one area until it is hunted

All email correspondence is re-directed to my mobile phone and will be answered as soon as possible. History of the Ethiopian Coptic Cross European missionaries brought Christianity to many parts of Africa. In parallel with colonialism. But this was not the case with Ethiopia. The kingdom was probably the second country(after Armenia) to embrace the Christian faith, when St. Frumentius of Tyre converted King Ezana during the 4th century. There is evidence that Christianity thrived in the country even in the 1st century and for most of the country's history since, the state religion has been Orthodox Christianity. There was a brief experiment with Catholicism in the 17th century when Emperor Susenyos allowed himself to be persuaded by Jesuit missionaries from Portugal- possibly a ... morepolitical move to help secure Portuguese and Spanish military assistance. If that was his cunning plan. It backfired. Not only did the European soldiers fail to arrive, but the demands of Rome were just too unpalatable for the Ethiopians. Centuries of culture were threatened and many Ethiopians revolted with great loss of life. The emperor relented, expelled the missionaries, and in 1632 the state religion reverted to Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that rather than the familiar European Latin Cross, the Ethiopian Cross has a distinctive'African' appearance. These are often named after the Northern Ethiopian regions and towns they are found in; for example Lalibela. Axum and Gondar. Ethiopian crosses are invariably made from elaborate lattice work. Hand crosses usually include a square at the base, which represents the Ark of the Covenant and both the Ark and the Cross bear the Shekinah. Geometric patterns are common in Ethiopian art and there is order and meaning in the intertwined latt

Luba Kasai, Sungu, Tetela, Mputu, Luntu, Binji, Kaniok, Kusu Types of Art: There are numerous mask styles associated with the Songye. Power objects and objects associated with divination are also prevalent in Western collections. In the past many Songye objects have been misattributed to the Luba and vice versa. History: Songye origins are shared with the Luba through a common mythical Songye ancestor known as Kongolo. Who can be traced through lineages to the 16th century. The linguistic traditions of these neighboring ... morepeoples are intertwined as well. It is believed that the founders of the Songye emerged from the lake region in Shaba province to the south in the heart of the Luba homeland. The Lomani River divides Songye territory and marks the boundary of the areas invaded by the Luba. As a result of these geographic and political differences there emerged of two distinct social structures among the eastern and western Songye and two stylistic differences in art forms between the two areas. Economy: The Songye traditionally relied mostly on farming and hunting for subsistence. Because the rivers were associated with the spirits of deceased chiefs who were often buried in them. Fishing was not practiced except in times of great need. The artistic wares of the Songye, including pottery made by women and weaving and metalworking done by men, were traded extensively with their neighbors. They were recognized as superior craftsmen, and their products were in great demand. Political Systems: The Songye are divided into about 35 subgro
